
POLYTECHNIC OF AGRICULTURAL

INTRODUCTION
The Agriculture Polytechnic of Maruteru was sanctioned by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in the year 1999. Presently it is functioning at the premises of RARS, Maruteru in the ground floor of Rythu Bhavan.
ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES
A total number of 26 courses pertaining to Agriculture, Horticulture, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Extension and Agricultural Economics subjects are taught in this Diploma Course during four semesters of 2 years up to 2009-2010. The revised syllabus with 17 restructured courses are being implemented from 2009-2010 academic year onwards along with (PAMP) Participatory Agricultural Management Programme. Each semester consists of not less than 21 weeks equivalent to 100 instructional days. The teaching staff of PoA and scientist staff of RARS, Maruteru handle the courses to the students.
ADMISSION OF STUDENTS
The functioning of the Agricultural Polytechnic was commenced with the admission of first batch of students on 28th December, 1999. The intake of Students during each year was 25 up to 2007-08, it has been raised to 50 – 60 in the subsequent years. The present allotment by the university is 51 students per year.
COLLEGE ACCOMMODATION
Previously the accommodation for the Class rooms, Laboratory and Office is provided in the first floor and one room in the ground floor of Paddy production Training Center building of Department of Agriculture. Recently the college was shifted to ground floor of Farmers Hostel(Rytu Bhavan) of RARS, Maruteru.
HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION
The Boy students have been provided hostel accommodation in the hostel building nearer to RARS, Maruteru and girl students are provided accommodation in the hostel building located at staff quarters, besides the Rytu Bhavan.
GAMES AND SPORTS
The students under the guidance and supervision of the Physical Director (part-time basis) are improving their talents in indoor and outdoor games during evening hours. The students are also improving their talents to participate in the intercollegiate games and sports events. On most of the occasions, the students came out with overall championship. Recently during 2018-2019 the students both boys and girls won the overall champion ship in the sports, games, cultural and literary meet organized at Madakasira, Ananthpuram. Boys won the overall champion ship in the sports, games, cultural and literary meet organized. During 2019-20 girl students won the overall champion ship in the sports, games, cultural and literary meet organized at Tirupati.
SCHOLARSHIPS
The eligible students belong to S.C, S.T and E.W.S, B.C category are receiving Scholarship from the respective Welfare Offices.
OUT TURN OF STUDENTS
A total number of 700 students have successfully completed the Diploma course so far from APT, Maruteru.
PLACEMENT CELL AND EMPLOYMENT OF THE STUDENTS
A Placement cell is functioning at Agricultural Polytechnic, Maruteru to provide employment to the eligible candidates. Many of the candidates were employed in Seed & Fertilizer companies and in sugar factories. Recently, 27 students got selected for Village Agricultural Assistant (VAA) posts in Grama Sachivalayam’s of the State Agriculture Department.
HIGHER EDUCATION
Many students have joined in the B.Sc.(Ag) degree course through AGRICET and got admissions in our University colleges. During the academic year 2019-2020 seven students and during 2020-21 five students were admitted in the B.SC(Ag.) Four students have prosecuted Post graduate studies in agriculture also.
FACILITIES
Medical Facility
At PoA, Maruteru, a part-time civil surgeon was appointed to oversee student health and welfare, demonstrating a strong commitment to their well-being. A dedicated room, equipped with essential facilities including a bed, was provided to ensure a hygienic and comfortable environment for medical consultations and care.
Foot over bridge
Previously, the lack of a footbridge at PoA, Maruteru, made it challenging for girl students to access the RARS campus or the main road, as they had to navigate a canal. To address this, a footbridge was constructed across the canal, significantly improving accessibility and providing a safe and convenient pathway for students.
Smart Class rooms
At PoA, Maruteru, all classrooms are equipped with digital tools and A-V aids, enabling an immersive learning experience. Lessons are designed to simulate real-world scenarios, allowing students to grasp concepts effectively through engaging and interactive

This practical approach helps students gain valuable insights into crop management, understand the challenges involved, and develop essential skills for successful agricultural practices.Participatory Agricultural Management Programme (PAMP)
In the first semester of the second year, the PAMP is an integral part of the curriculum at PoA, Maruteru. This program immerses students in the entire agricultural cycle, from sowing to selling the produce, providing them with first-hand experience of the challenges faced by farmers.
Computers lab
Students are provided with computers as part of their coursework to explore and engage with the digital world. This facilitates their learning and helps them develop essential digital skills that are crucial in today’s technology-driven environment.
Entrepreneurship activity
At PoA, Maruteru, efforts are made to nurture entrepreneurial skills in students by engaging them in practical activities such as mushroom cultivation, organic vegetable farming, poultry farming, vermicomposting, seed production and apiculture.
Educational tours
As an integral part of the coursework, students are taken on educational tours to visit vegetable nurseries, food processing industries, agricultural research stations, and state agricultural universities, as well as ICAR institutes across Andhra Pradesh. These tours provide students with valuable exposure to real-world agricultural practices and research, enhancing their practical knowledge and understanding of the field.
Events
At Polytechnic of Agriculture, Maruteru, the birth and death anniversaries of inspirational leaders are commemorated with the active participation of students and staff. These events serve as a reminder of the leaders’ exemplary lives and their contributions, inspiring students to lead lives of purpose and dedication.
